A massive fire has engulfed several industrial units in Dagenham.
Around 80 firefighters have been deployed to tackle the ‘significant’ blaze with reports of a ‘huge explosion’.
Flames have spread to nearby cars as well as within the units.
Residents close to Kemp Road in Dagenham have been urged to keep windows shut to avoid heavy smoke seeping into their homes.
One Twitter user reported witnessing a ‘huge explosion’ as the flames took hold.
Station Commander Paul Green, who is at the scene, said: ‘Firefighters are tackling a significant fire involving a number of industrial units.
‘Nearby residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed while crews work to extinguish the blaze as there is heavy smoke in the area.’
Twelve fire engines are also on the scene.
Teams were first called at 7.14pm and 999 Control Officers have taken more than 50 calls about the blaze.
Fire crews from Barking, Dagenham, Hainault, Ilford, Romford, Tottenham and surrounding fire stations are all at the scene.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
