A suspect is in police custody after shooting and killing five people in a small town in Texas, police said.
Law enforcement sources told local station KWTX that a father shot his wife and two children. It is unclear who the other two victims are at this point in time.
Another victim was reportedly found dead in the street, while another was found in a nearby home.
Authorities have revealed very little information about the deadly incident that happened on Thursday morning, which they say is still under investigation.
‘Five people are confirmed deceased from the incident that transpired this morning,’ a police spokesperson said at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
He said that they couldn’t confirm the victims’ names or identities until their families are notified.
Neighbors said they heard gunshots around 8am. The incident ended with an officer-involved shooting, police said.
Schools at the McGregor Independent School District were placed on lock down for 15 minutes on Thursday morning while the shooting took place.
In a message sent to district students and parents MISD Superintendent James Lenamon called the shooting a ‘domestic disturbance.’
‘In light of today’s events, and out of respect for the victims, all MISD activities, including the JH pep rally and all JH & sub-varsity games, have been canceled,’ the school district said in a statement.
McGregor is a small town of about 5,000 residents in central Texas. It is about 98 miles north of Austin and 109 miles south of Fort Worth.
