For many of us, Sundays are meant for sleep, lie-ins, chilling with family and friends or even box set binges (like the new She-Hulk series or a classic Netflix watch).

For others, while the weather remains fine and sunny, it’s a time to get out and do some gardening.

But for others, it’s the perfect opportunity to get ahead of yourself, plan your meals for the week and hit the supermarket to stock up.

Or, if you’re hosting people for Sunday lunch, you might need to hit the shops if you’ve run out of something at the last minute.

So it’s good to know that these days, supermarkets – both large and small – are open for business on a Sunday, even though their hours might be different.

With that in mind, what time does Morrisons open on a Sunday?

What time is Morrisons open on Sundays?

Morrisons opening time may vary depending on where you are in the country – but in England and Wales, the larger branches will be open for a reduced time on Sundays.

Most will be open for just six hours. This could be any time between 10am and 6pm – so some branches will be open from 10am until 4pm, some from 11am-5pm.

Others may not open their doors until 12pm, closing at 6pm.

You can use the store finder on the Morrisons website to find out what time your local branch opens and closes.

Why are opening hours different on Sundays?

Opening hours of supermarkets are different on Sundays due to Sunday trading laws.

Under the Sunday Trading Act 1994, large shops and supermarkets – defined as anything over 3000 square foot – are allowed to open on Sundays for just six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm in England and Wales.

So, this means larger supermarkets are either open from 10am to 4pm, 11pm to 5pm or 12pm to 6pm.

However the rules vary according to where you might be in the country.

Stores in Northern Ireland can only trade between 1pm and 6pm, and there are no trading time restrictions in Scotland.

There are no restrictions on opening hours for smaller shops – with each branch able to set its own opening hours.

Some branches may have different hours on a Sunday – opening later or closing earlier – but this isn’t set by law.

This also applies to petrol stations, whose opening hours may also vary.

Once again, check the store locator on the website to see what time your local is open.
