August bank holiday 2022 opening times for Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda

The August bank holiday is upon us, and whether you’re planning a summer day out enjoying a few extra hours of kip, many of us will be planning to make the most of the day off.

This year, the bank holiday falls on Monday, August 29.

Some might be hoping to call some friends over for a sunny BBQ, but can you still pop to the shops and stock up on burger buns, bottles of beer or even just essentials?

Generally, bank holiday hours vary depending on individual supermarket shops, but there is usually a guide to opening hours – as well as a way to check your local store’s times.

Here’s when Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and other supermarkets will be open over the bank holiday weekend.

Tesco will generally be open at standard times throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Some shops might operate shorter hours on Sunday, but many Express stores will keep standard hours – with some Xtra (large) shops opening at 10am and closing at 4pm on Monday.

Each individual store might be operating different opening hours – so it’s advisable to check the Tesco store locator to confirm when your nearest shop is open – as this will show you the bank holiday times for your local.

Sainsbury’s bank holiday opening hours 2022

The majority of Sainsbury’s shops will be open from 7am until 8pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Shoppers in Scotland can visit their nearest Sainsbury’s during its normal hours throughout the bank holiday weekend.

If you’re making the trip, check the Sainsbury’s store locator, just to be safe.

Asda bank holiday opening hours 2022

Some Asda shops will open from 7am to 10pm over the bank holiday weekend, though others may have reduced hours on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

One 24-hour Asda in Leyton, London is open 12am to 10pm on Saturday, 11am to 5pm on Sunday and 7am to 8pm on Monday – this is just an example of how times can vary.

Your best bet? Use Asda’s store locator to check your local branch pre-shop.

Aldi bank holiday opening hours 2022

You can expect many Aldi branches to be open on Saturday from 7am to 10pm, and a shorter time of 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

On bank holiday Monday, shops may be open from 7am until 8pm.

Morrisons bank holiday opening hours 2022

Bank holiday opening times will vary when it comes to Morrisons, depending on your location.

Many shops, however, will operate from 7am to 10pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday – plus 7am to 8pm on Monday.

Check Morrisons store locator before you head out, though, so you don’t miss your chance to drop in.

Lidl bank holiday opening hours 2022

Lidl is also one to watch, as opening hours will vary across the country.

An 8am to 10pm schedule for Saturday, followed by 10am to 4pm for some stores is likely. On bank holiday Monday, many shops will open from 8am until 8pm.

Pop your city or postcode into Lidl’s store finder before stepping out to the supermarket.
