Alleged gunman charged with murder after rampage on remote Scottish island

A gunman suspected of rampaging across rural Scotland has been charged with murder.

Finlay MacDonald is accused of attempting to murder his wife and three others during a spree on a remote island.

The 39-year-old is alleged to have shot John MacKinnon, 47, on the Isle of Skye on Wednesday. 

Gunshots were also heard on the mainland at Dornie, Wester Ross.

Three others were taken to hospital following the incidents.

A 63-year-old man was described as being in a ‘critical’ condition on Thursday.

A woman named locally as Rowena MacDonald, 32, was left with injuries described as ‘serious’.

Another woman, 63, was taken to Broadford Hospital, Skye, and released after treatment.

Mr MacDonald, the younger woman’s husband, faced one charge of murder and three charges of attempted murder when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court on Friday.

He did not enter a plea.

The 39-year-old was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
