A former staffer for disgraced ex-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was killed after his Lyft driver kicked him out of the car and left him on the side of a road.

Sidney Wolf, 43, was killed on Coastal Highway (Route 1) near Dewey Beach early Sunday morning, according to the Delaware State Police.

Wolf and five of his friends hired the driver to transport them from Dewey Beach to a home in Bethany Beach.

Around 1.44am, the six passengers had a ‘disagreement’ with the Lyft driver, according to police, who then promptly stopped in the left lane and demanded they all exit the car.

At the same time, an unidentified 27-year-old man was driving southbound on the same highway in the left lane. The driver saw the stopped Lyft vehicle and swerved into the right lane to avoid it.

The driver failed to see Wolf, who had just exited from the Lyft’s right passenger door. He was killed after being hit by the car in the right lane.

The driver pulled over after hitting Wolf, but the Lyft driver fled the scene after the accident.

The highway was closed for about four hours while state police investigated the incident.

‘We are heartbroken by this incident. Our hearts are with Mr Wolf’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we’ve reached out to offer our support,’ a Lyft spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.

The rideshare company also said they permanently removed the driver who kicked Wolf out from the app.

‘Shocked & saddened to hear this tragic news,’ former Governor Cuomo said on Twitter. ‘Sid was a phenomenal public servant who worked relentlessly for the betterment of all NY’ers.’

‘Sid was a people magnet and was the first to welcome you with a hug; his life force was unmistakable and irresistible,’ an online obituary for Wolf reads.

Wolf is survived by a wife, Lindsay Greenbaum Wolf and two daughters.

‘He effortlessly collected friends and treasured family above all. To see him with his daughters was to see love embodied,’ his obituary reads.

Wolf’s friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page for donations to directly support his wife and two daughters. As of Thursday morning, it had raised over $78,000.
