An MP loyal to Boris Johnson was filmed shouting ‘wait and see’ at a crowd of protesters who turned out to watch his resignation.
Andrea Jenkyns, MP for Morley and Outwood, confronted the jeering and booing onlookers as she and other MPs left Downing Street where they had supported Mr Johnson as he addressed the nation.
She could be heard shouting: ‘Those who laugh last, laugh the loudest – wait and see.’
In response, the crowd in their hundreds shouted back at her ‘Shame on you’.
Her taun was largely drowned out by a sea of boos and the Benny Hill theme tune, which had been ringing out from the speaker of notorious anti-Brexit protestor Steve Bray, 53, since early this morning.
Mr Bray has been out and about blaring the song ‘Bye bye Boris’, his modified rendition of Bay City Rollers classic, ‘Bye Bye Baby’ since Boris Johnson’s leadership was plunged into chaos on Tuesday.
The vast majority of protesters in attendance today were there to marvel at the fact Boris Johnson’s premiership had come to an end.
The huddle of MPs and aides in support of Boris Johnson was dwarfed by the hundreds of protestors outside No.10 booing and jeering.
One of the demonstrators waiting outside Downing Street was holding a placard reading: ‘Get your Johnson out of our democracy’.
Boris Johnson announced his resignation today as leader of the Conservative party, saying ‘no-one is indispensable’ but plans to battle on as caretaker PM until the autumn.
Mr Johnson eventually admitted defeat after shattering interventions from senior Tory MPs telling him to go including the likes of Nadhim Zahawi, Priti Patel and Grant Shapps.
He is now in the process of rebuilding a temporary cabinet with Greg Clark becoming the new Levelling Up Secretary, James Cleverly the Education Secretary, Robert Buckland returning as Welsh Secretary, and Shailesh Vara taking over as Northern Ireland Secretary.
