A nationwide search is underway for Kaitlin Armstrong, a Texas woman accused of killing a professional cyclist who at one point dated her boyfriend.
The US Marshals Service is conducting the search for Armstrong, 35, who is wanted on a first-degree murder charge in connection to the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Anna Moriah Wilson.
Wilson, a competitive gravel and mountain bike racer, had traveled to Austin, Texas in early May for a race. She was pronounced dead on May 11 when police responded to a call from a woman who found her friend bleeding and unconscious.
The 25-year-old biker suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died, according to the Austin Police Department.
Officials are now searching for Armstrong, who is a suspect in Wilson’s death. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by CNN, both Wilson and Armstrong had romantic relationships with the same man, Colin Strickland, a professional cyclist.
Armstrong had reportedly contacted Wilson numerous times in the past, telling her to ‘stay away’ from Strickland. Surveillance from the day of the murder shows a vehicle similar to Armstrong’s near the residence where Wilson’s body was discovered.
Armstrong had initially been in police custody on an unrelated warrant just days before the crime, but police told her she was free to go when that warrant was deemed invalid. She hasn’t been seen since.
Wilson, known as ‘Mo’ had gone swimming and went to dinner with Strickland the day she was killed. Strickland had dropped her of at the home where she was later found dead.
According to the affidavit, Strickland told police he was in a relationship with Armstrong for three years, but had dated Wilson when they were on a break in their relationship.
Surveillance footage shows the car suspected to be Armstrong’s arrived at the home a minute later. When asked by authorities, Armstrong provided no explanation.
Wilson’s family said in a statement that ‘at the time of her death, she was not in a romantic relationship with anyone.’
Strickland is not considered a suspect because security footage and other evidence shows he was elsewhere at the time of Wilson’s death. The US Marshals Service is asking anyone with information about Armstrong’s location to contact them.
