WhatsApp can be a great tool for keeping in touch with friends, family and work colleagues.
It can also be a lot to keep up with, with plentiful group chats popping up as well as individual conversations.
At times, you might find someone you really don’t want to speak to – perhaps a pal you’ve fallen out with, or has opposing views on something – is suddenly, irritatingly, blowing up your phone.
Or unluckier still, someone random is sending you inappropriate messages out of the blue.
Luckily, WhatsApp has a straightforward ‘block’ feature – meaning said person can no longer make unwanted contact via messages or calls. They won’t be able to see any status updates either.
Sound appealing? So, how do you go about blocking someone? Here’s how.
How to block someone on WhatsApp
If you’ve got WhatsApp on your iPhone, start by opening up your ‘Chats’ tab.
Tap on the Chat with the person you want to block, and click on their name/number at the top of the screen.
Note if you’re blocking someone who isn’t in your contacts, sometimes it’s just their number that will show.
You’ll then be taken to their profile. Simply scroll down until you see ‘Block [Name/Number]’. Click, and you’re all done.
Android users will have three dots, like a vertical ellipsis, in the top right hand corner of the screen upon opening the app.
Tap it, then hit Settings > Account > Privacy > Blocked Contacts.
Once you’re on the Blocked Contacts page, you can click the ‘+’ button to add the contact you’d like to block.
How to unblock someone on WhatsApp
In order to unblock someone, repeat the above steps relevant to your iPhone or Android device.
For iPhone, on the profile page, you should see ‘Unblock [Name/Number]’. Click it and you’re good to go.
For Android, you’ll be able to unblock people via Blocked Contacts. Simple.
