Nearly 300 Members of Parliament in the UK have been hit with sanctions by Russia, the Kremlin announced this week.
The new sanctions – announced by Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs – prohibit hundreds of MPs from entering the Russian Federation, explains the ministry’s website.
In a statement (translated into English), the ministry adds the sanctions are ‘in reciprocity’ for sanctions implemented by the UK.
It also wrote: ‘These persons… took the most active part in the establishment of anti-Russian sanctions instruments in London, and contribute to the groundless whipping up of Russophobic hysteria in the UK.’
Interestingly, though, the list appears to be out of date – as it includes several former Tory and Labour MPs, such as Dominic Grieve and Jo Johnson. Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers’ name also appears twice on the website.
Russia announced it had sanctioned 287 members, but Theresa Villiers appears to have been listed twice.
So, which Brit politicians are going to be banned from entering Russia?
Here is the list according to The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
