Prince Harry hints he may not return for Jubilee after saying ‘US is home’

Prince Harry has seemingly committed his immediate future to the US, two years after splitting from the royal fold.

In a wide-ranging interview with a US television station, the prince said America is now his ‘home’.

He has barely set foot back in the UK since moving his family overseas but Duke and Duchess of Sussex met with the Queen in secret last week.

Harry and Meghan also reportedly spoke to Prince Charles on their way to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games.

But any suggestion that the meeting may have been a precursor to a return appear to have been dispelled by his comments today.

Asked where he considers home, he told NBC: ‘Home for me now is, you know, for the time being, it’s in the States, and it feels that way as well.’

He and Meghan have lived in Montecito, California, with their two children since 2020.

Despite reports that he intended to travel to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Harry cast his attendance into doubt.

BGUK_2360996 - Los Angeles, CA - Prince Harry says he???s ensuring the Queen is ???protected??? and has ???right people around her??? as he reveals he and Meghan had tea with HR, in exclusive Today Show interview. Harry sat down with Today host Hoda Kotb during the fifth Invictus Games, a sporting event for injured and sick veterans and opened up about his recent visit with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. ???Being with her, it was great,??? Harry remarked during the interview, which took place in The Hague in the Netherlands. ???It was just so nice to see her ??? She???s on great form.??? Harry being open about his visit comes amid speculation about the British monarch's health since testing positive for COVID-19 in February. Since then, the Queen has largely avoided the public eye. Her absence from this past weekend???s Easter celebrations sparked concern that she might be continuing to struggle with her health. According to the prince, he was able to share some laughs with the Queen over tea and alongside his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. ???She???s always got a great sense of humor with me,??? he explained. Hoda noted: ???I know you make her laugh. That???s what she always says. Did you do it, make her laugh again???? Harry replied with a chuckle: ???Yeah, I did. It was really nice to catch up with her. I???m just making sure that she???s, you know, protected and got the right people around her. You know, home - home for me, now, is, you know, for the time being, in the states.??? Harry said that despite living further away from her these days, he's putting in the effort to ensure his grandmother remains secure and supported. In 2020, Harry and Meghan moved thousands of miles away from the Queen???s English residence. The couple relocated to Santa Barbara, California, where they currently live with their two children; Archie, 2, and Lilibet, 10 months. While the couple announced in 2020 that they would step back from their royal duties, Harry's brother, Prince William, continues to carry out official duties in support of the queen. During a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Harry admitted a rift had developed in his relationship with his brother, saying: ???Time heals all things, hopefully.??? But at this time, it seems he???s happy with his new home across the pond. ???We???ve been welcomed with open arms,??? he told Hoda before noting that, for now, he and his family have: ???Got such a great community up in Santa Barbara.??? *BACKGRID DOES NOT CLAIM ANY COPYRIGHT OR LICENSE IN THE ATTACHED MATERIAL. He said he did not know if he would be able to attend because of ‘security issues’, a reference to long-running row over who provides his protection in the UK since standing back from frontline royal duties.

Harry is engaged in a court battle with the Home Office after it was decided he would not be provided with security when visiting from the US.

He has previously said he ‘does not feel safe’ offered to to pay for protection, a suggestion branded ‘irrelevant’ to how policing decisions are made by the department.

Comments that he wanted to ensure the Queen has the ‘right people around her’ and is ‘protected’ will also raise eyebrows.

The remarks appear to be a broadside at senior figures in the royal family or in the monarchy more broadly.

He also sidestepped a question about whether or not he misses Prince Charles or Prince William, saying he was focussed on his role with the Invictus Games.

Asked by Hoda Kotb, co-presenter of the NBC News morning show Today, if he missed his father or brother, Harry replied: ‘For me at the moment I’m here focused on these guys and giving everything I can 120% to them to make sure they have the experience of a lifetime.

‘That’s my focus here and when I leave here, I go back and my focus is my family, who I miss massively.’
