A young man has died after being ‘taken ill’ at a major club event over the weekend.

The victim, a male in his 20s who has not been named, was taken to hospital after suffering an unknown medical emergency at a Warehouse Project night in Manchester City Centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He passed away on Sunday afternoon.

It’s believed he was attending a party headlined by American superstar DJ MK at the 10,000-capacity Depot Mayfield venue in Baring Street, where Warehouse Project has hosted dozens of events since 2015.

The cause of death has not been released but detectives are not treating it as suspicious.

A spokesperson for The Warehouse Project said: ‘We have been made aware that in the early hours of Saturday morning, a young male in his mid-twenties was presented by WHP security to the on-site medical team during their event at Depot Mayfield.

‘Having assessed his condition an ambulance was called and he was sent to hospital. We have however sadly learnt that he has since passed away.

‘At this stage we do not know any further details or cause of death. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends.’

It comes nine months after the death of 20-year-old student James Diss following a ‘very significant and rapid’ adverse reaction to a high dose of MDMA and ketamine.

He was rushed to hospital in the early hours of September 25 but died a short time later.

An inquest held at Manchester Coroner’s Court on Monday heard how he became unwell immediately after taking a pill bought by a friend and began removing his clothes on the dancefloor, Manchester Evening News reports.

Paramedics at the venue rushed to treat him when he was found slumped against a wall in the corner of the club, but his condition worsened on the way to hospital, where traces of alcohol and ketamine were in his system.

Four of his friends were arrested for possession of drugs with intent to supply and two reportedly remain under investigation.

The coroner ruled James’ death was drug-related after a toxicologist found he had suffered toxicity due to the use of MDMA, also known as ecstasy, combined with ketamine.

No other deaths are known to have been linked to Warehouse Project, which has held dozens of events at its Mayfield venue since 2015.
