Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the deadly mass shooting that left six people dead and 12 others injured outside a strip of bars and clubs in downtown Sacramento.

Dandre Martin was arrested Monday on charges of assault with a firearm and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, Sacramento police said in a statement.

‘Right now that’s really all we’re able to share about him,’ Lester told NBC affiliate KCRA on Monday. ‘As you know this is a complex investigation and we’re looking for multiple suspects and so we’re currently working to identify what his role was the night of the shooting.’

Investigators have not said if Martin was one of the shooters, though city officials previously stated they believe there was more than one shooter.

Three men and three women were killed and 12 others were injured early Sunday morning when gunfire broke out following a large fight downtown. The shooting took place around 2am, when many were leaving bars and clubs in the popular downtown strip.

On Monday, police shared that at least three buildings and three cars were hit by stray gunfire. Over 100 bullet casings were recovered from the area.

‘We know that there were a lot of shots fired that night and hence the complexity of the investigation,’ Lester said.

Detectives also served search warrants at three residences on Monday, where at least one handgun was recovered.

The Sacramento County coroner’s office has identified the three men and women who were killed in the massacre as: Johntaya Alexander, 21; Melinda Davis, 57; Sergio Harris, 38; Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi, 32; Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21; Davazia Turner, 29.

The injuries sustained by the 12 victims range in severity from minor to critical, officials said Monday.

The shooting took place in the city’s downtown entertainment district around 2 am on Sunday, after a large fight had taken place outside a bar. Police say a gunman, who was inside a car, opened fire into the crowd before fleeing.

A second person fired a gun, but authorities have not yet determined whether they were in the crowd or the car. Video taken from those in the area of the shooting that have been posted on social media show rapid gunfire that lasted for at least 45 seconds as people screamed and ran for cover.

Sacramento’s police chief urged those who were in the area and took videos to share them or any other evidence they may have with authorities.

‘The scale of violence that just happened in our city is unprecedented during my 27 years here,’ Lester said. ‘We are shocked and heartbroken by this tragedy. But we are also resolved as an agency to find those responsible and to secure justice for the victims and the families.’
