The US Embassy has warned citizens of possible terror attacks in Russia as tension rises with Ukraine.

Americans were advised to ‘have evacuation plans that do not rely on US government assistance’ tonight.

A statement on the US Embassy and Consulates in Russia website said: ‘According to media sources, there have been threats of attacks against shopping centers, railway and metro stations, and other public gathering places in major urban areas, including Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as in areas of heightened tension along the Russian border with Ukraine.’

It comes after the US Secretary of State cautioned the Kremlin could stage a fake chemical weapons attack to justify invading Ukraine in the ‘coming days’

Speaking before the UN Security Council, Antony Blinken said US intelligence suggested Vladimir Putin could create a manufactured pretext such as a ‘violent’ event or an ‘outrageous accusation’.

Russian media would then fan the flames to set up the assault, he predicted.

Reports claimed tonight that Vladimir Putin has given Russian commanders the order to proceed with the invasion.

They are now ‘making specific plans for how they would manoeuvre in their sectors of the battlefield’, CBS News claimed.

World leaders have been warning of an imminent attack for weeks now, as 150,000 Russian soldiers gather near Ukraine.

Russian armoured tanks painted with a letter ‘Z’ and huge convoys are said to be moving closer to the border.

Huge nuclear drills, including a number of practice missile launches were overlooked by Mr Putin this week.

It came after the UK and US accused Russia of orchestrating an ‘false flag’ attack on a Ukraine nursery.
