Queen picture reveals she loves a bit of tat just as much as the rest of us

It comes as no surprise that the Royal Family has high-class, expensive taste.

This is easy to see from the designer clothes each royal wears to events and the grand furniture in every residence.

The public got a glimpse of this luxurious interior style when the Queen was filmed meeting the incoming defence services secretary Major General Eldon Millar and his predecessor Rear Admiral James Macleod on Wednesday.

Gold curtains, mirrors and impressive ornaments were dotted all around a sitting room in Windsor Castle.

But there was also a more surprising, playful feature – a cardboard cutout of a Queen’s guardsman holding up a real tray for her drinks.

The on-the-nose stand was spotted in the corner of the room’s entrance.

The guardsman is difficult to miss as it sticks out amoung the gold-framed art and antique furniture.

So the next time you wonder whether that bright, pink neon light is too tacky for your grown-up flat, remember what the 95-year-old Queen has pulled off at Windsor.

Perhaps more predictable are the many photographs of Her Majesty’s family framed all around the room.

One of the pictures shows the Queen and Prince Philip sitting on a sofa at Balmoral Castle with seven of their great-grandchildren huddled around them.

Kate Middleton released it last April after she took it in 2018 – before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had even welcomed Archie into the world.

However, another picture was placed right next to it which the public has not yet seen.

The photo frame is cut off by the older one so it is unclear who is pictured on the right side of it, and Philip cannot be seen in what is likely a more recent family portrait.

The Queen is sitting in the middle, holding a baby which may be Archie, the youngest great-grandchild to be born in England. Little sister Lilibet was born in California last June.

The official meeting in this room was the first time Her Majesty has been seen since it was confirmed her son, Prince Charles, has tested positive for Covid.

The Palace has not said whether the Queen had tested positive after being in close contact with Charles but her return to business as usual – albeit with a walking stick – suggests she is out of the woods.
