The House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot has asked Fox News host Sean Hannity to voluntarily cooperate in the inquiry into the attack and his pal ex-President Donald Trump’s role.

In a letter to Hannity on Tuesday, the committee leaders wrote they possessed material suggesting that he ‘had advance knowledge regarding President Trump’s and his legal team’s planning for January 6th’.

Hannity gave advice to Trump and expressed concerns around the insurrection, according to Democratic committee chairman Bennie Thompson and Republican vice chair Liz Cheney.

‘You also had relevant communications while the riot was underway, and in the days thereafter,’ they wrote, according to The Washington Post. ‘These communications make you a fact witness in our investigation.’

Committee members say they have dozens of text messages that Hannity sent to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, or received from him.

The letter states that on December 31, 2020, Hannity texted Meadows: ‘We can’t lose the entire WH counsels office. I do NOT see January 6 happening the way he is being told. After the 6 th. [sic] He should announce will lead the nationwide effort to reform voting integrity. Go to Fl and watch Joe mess up daily. Stay engaged. When he speaks people will listen.’

Thompson and Cheney said that text suggests that Hannity ‘had knowledge of concerns by President Trump’s White House Counsel’s Office regarding the legality of the former President’s plans for January 6th’.

‘These facts are directly relevant to our inquiry,’ they wrote.

They sent the letter to Hannity just two days before the first anniversary of the Capitol riot, in which five people died and 140 law enforcement officers were injured.

Hannity was a close adviser to Trump during his presidency and often reportedly called him after his show aired and spoke with him several times a day regarding developments.
