Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene seemed to suggest Thursday, on the anniversary of the January 6 attack on the Capitol, that the FBI was responsible for the breach.
During a press conference with Matt Gaetz, a Republican Representative from Florida, Greene questioned how many undercover FBI agents were at the Capitol on January 6 last year.
‘We have a January 6 committee that is unwilling and refusing to ask those serious questions,’ Greene claims. ‘Now, what is our FBI doing, and why is the Department of Justice going along with it.’
Greene adds, ‘I think the question that really should be asked – is an informant also involved in making the plans for these types of things and violence and security breach at the Capitol?;
‘Are they an informant sitting quietly in meetings and listening to plans or are they actually taking part in planning these things,’ Greene questions, referring to the FBI’s ‘history.’
Greene goes on to falsely claim that the FBI was responsible for the ‘plot’ to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Five people were charged with kidnapping conspiracy and face a trial March 8 in Grand Rapids for the incident. The men have pleaded not guilty and also claim to be victims of entrapment by the FBI.
‘We can go back further, another example would be in 1968 at the Democratic National Convention where there were 10,000 protestors,’ Greene said. ‘One out of six were federal undercover agents. You do the math and that’s approximately 1,600 at this protest.’
She then compares that protest in which about 1,000 Secret Service and FBI agents did show up to Chicago, to January 6th’s insurrection.
‘We don’t know how many federal informants, FBI agents, people in other agencies. We don’t know those numbers,’ Greene said, alleging that the January 6 committee investigating the attack is responsible for withholding that information.
‘Here at the Capitol security breach we do not know how many federal informants, FBI agents, people in other agencies. We don’t know those numbers.’
Greene and Gaetz have also been pushing the theory that Ray Epps, a Marine veteran who attended the protest, is responsible for inciting the riot.
The 60-year-old veteran has become the center of a conspiracy theory alleging that he was an FBI plant sent to incite the deadly riot.
‘Epps organized and told people to go in and incited people to do the breach of the capitol – yet he has not been charged. There’s a lot to be answered for,’ Greene said.
Greene also places blame on Christopher Ray of the FBI and Merrick Garland of the Department of Justice, who she alleges are ‘going after everyone.’
‘They seem to think that this is the biggest investigation that they’ve ever needed to undertake in US history,’ Greene said. ‘You know what I think needs to be the biggest investigation in the United States history is what is going on at the FBI and what is happening at the Department of Justice. The American people deserve to know.’
