Downing Street has confirmed Boris Johnson will publish a second version of the Sue Gray report when the Metropolitan Police investigation concludes.
It comes after the prime minister repeatedly refused to guarantee this while facing MPs in a fiery Commons session today.
Sue Gray was asked to only make ‘minimal reference’ to Partygate events after the force launched a probe last week. She wrote it was ‘not possible at present’ to publish a ‘meaningful report’ but noted that she had found ‘failures of leadership and judgment’.
Evidence of ‘excessive consumption of alcohol’ was uncovered, staff said they ‘felt unable to raise concerns’ about breaches in Number 10.
Some gatherings are ‘difficult to justify’, the long-awaited document concluded.
Ian Blackford, Leader of the SNP in the House of Commons, described the document as a ‘farce’ before being thrown out this afternoon.
But lawyers have insisted the findings, while limited, are still ‘damning’ and ‘brutal’.
Boris Johnson apologised to the nation, but resisted calls to resign earlier today.
A No 10 spokesman said tonight: ‘Given the police have said they are investigating a number of events, it would not be appropriate to comment further while the Met’s investigation is ongoing.
‘But, at the end of the process, the Prime Minister will ask Sue Gray to update her work in light of what is found. He will publish that update.
‘However the Prime Minister is clear we must not judge an ongoing investigation and his focus now is on addressing the general findings.’
