At least six people have been killed in an explosion at a canteen in a Chinese office building.
The blast, which is thought to have been caused by a gas leak, occurred shortly after midday on Friday in the dining hall a local government office in the southwestern city of Chongqing.
More than 20 people were believed to have been trapped in the rubble after the building collapsed as staff were having lunch, Xinhua reported.
Video footage and photos posted to social media show debris strewn across the street.
As of 7pm local time, six bodies had been recovered from the site and nine people brought out alive, while 11 others were still trapped.
Rescuers can also be seen using hand shovels to claw away some of the wreckage in a bid to free some of those trapped underneath, the South China Morning Post reports.
China’s Ministry of Emergency Management has dispatched a team to the scene, in Chongqing’s Wulong district.
The local fire department also sent 50 vehicles and two teams of 260 firefighters to assist with the rescue efforts.
