Now that the festive period is winding down, many people are looking forward to kicking off 2022 with renewed energy and vigour.
Equally, many people are still a little worn out from the season’s activities and would be keen for another day of rest.
Though work is still a reality for a significant segment of the population, a bank holiday acts as a day where things can run a little more slowly before the fast pace of the working world resumes.
So what happens to the New Year’s Day bank holiday when January 1 falls on the weekend? All is revealed below…
Is January 3 a bank holiday in 2022?
Good news for anyone who wants to squeeze a little more holiday out of the season – as Monday, January 3 is, indeed, a bank holiday.
Since New Year’s Day, traditionally a day when banks, schools, and other public services are closed (or running on a reduced or modified service), falls on a Saturday, the holiday will be observed on the next weekday that follows: Monday.
Is January 4 a bank holiday in 2022?
Unless you live in Scotland (which observes two bank holidays at this time of year), prepare for all to return to normal on Tuesday, January 4.
When is the next bank holiday in 2022?
After the New Year’s Day bank holiday is observed on Monday, the next nationwide BH is not until Good Friday on April 15 – so make the most of it, whatever you do!
