The Omicron Covid variant has a ‘substantial’ ability to evade immunity from a previous infection, the first real-world study on the new variant has suggested.

New research suggests it could spark a large new wave of infections – even in populations that boast high levels of antibodies.

Experts looked at almost 2.8 million confirmed coronavirus cases in South Africa since March 2020 and found 35,670 were re-infections, Sky News reports.
