Man upset his ‘deep’ Asda mince pies are actually quite shallow

Ever taken something out of its packaging only to find it wasn’t quite what you were expecting?

Then spare a thought for Liam Smith, from Manchester, who was left sorely disappointed recently by the size of his Asda mince pies.

Liam bought a pack from the Reddish store as his contribution to a family get-together but ended up looking slightly stingy when he took them out the box.

In fact, he was left wondering where the rest of them were as he appeared to have bought only ‘half a mince pie.’

The ‘deep filled’ Christmas treats were in fact distinctly shallow-looking and barely touched the edges of the packaging.

Liam said he was frustrated not just by the tiny pies but by the copious amounts of plastic used to house them.

Sharing an image online, he tweeted: ‘Don’t know why I still visit Asda.

‘Here thinking I was getting some deep filled mince pie. Not only poor quality but packaging waste of plastic.’

An Asda shopper was left fuming when he got home to discover that the mince pies he bought were much smaller than the packaging. Liam Smith visited the supermarket giant's Reddish store and bought a pack of four 'Baker's Selection' mince pies. He bought the treats as a contribution to a family get-together but when he arrived, he realised that the pies were a fraction of the size of the plastic packaging they were stored in. Sharing an image of the festive snack, Liam tweeted:

He later followed up with: ‘Boris Johnson hasn’t ruined Christmas this time it was Asda and their half a mince pie.’

Liam said the amount of packaging used was ‘unnecessary’, given the size of the mince pies involved.

‘I was amazed how small they were and how poor they were,’ he said.

‘The mince pie was one third the size of the packaging. As we’re all trying to reduce our plastic usage this just seems unnecessary and a waste of plastic.’

It is understood that the mince pies in question may have been put in the incorrect packaging by mistake.

An Asda spokesman declined to comment.
