A woman was caught reportedly trying to breastfeed her hairless cat while aboard a Delta Airlines flight – and refused to stop when told by a flight attendant.
The stunning incident on Delta flight 1360 from Syracuse, New York, to Atlanta, Georgia, was relayed to the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) by an airline worker. The message stated that a passenger in seat 13A was ‘breastfeeding a cat and will not put cat back in its carrier when (flight attendant) requested’, Newsweek reported.
Flight attendant Ainsley Elizabeth shared more details on TikTok.
‘This woman had one of those, like, hairless cats swaddled up in a blanket so it looked like a baby,’ Ainsley said in the November 13 video.
‘Her shirt was up and she was trying to get the cat to latch and she wouldn’t put the cat back in the carrier. And the cat was screaming for its life.’
In a November 2 TikTok post, Ainsley said that security guards responded to the incident.
The Delta worker who sent the message during the flight asked for the airline’s Red Coat team to meet the passenger when the plane touched down. Red Coats are ‘elite airport customer service experts, identifiable by their bright red coats’ that are ‘specially trained to handle on-the-stop customer issues’, the airline’s website states.
It is not clear what happened to the passenger after the plane landed.
The incident went viral after a screenshot of the message that the Delta employee sent to the ground was shared on social media.
According to the airline’s website, it ‘fully supports a woman’s right to breastfeed on board Delta and Delta connection aircraft and in Delta facilities’. Delta allows passengers to bring small cats, dogs and birds onto the cabin for an extra fee and the pets must be kept inside a carrier that fits under the seat in front of them.
Delta’s lactation policy does not address animals, but it is unlikely to apply.
