A man stabbed in the street was left to bleed to death as a crowd of witnesses filmed him writhing on the floor instead of trying to help him, it has been claimed.
The 25-year-old man, who has not been named, was attacked on a residential road in the Edrington area of Birmingham on Monday afternoon.
One resident said: ‘There was what looked like a fight but when the man went down he was surrounded by people pointing their phones at him.
‘It was obvious he was badly hurt but no one did anything to help him.
‘My neighbour desperately tried to help him but couldn’t get through the crowd.’
Paramedics arrived shortly after 4pm and rushed the victim to hospital but he was declared dead the same afternoon.
An 18-year-old male was arrested in the area on suspicion of murder, although police are still urging people with information or footage from dashcams or doorbell cameras to come forward.
The resident added: ‘It is utterly disgusting behaviour, where is people’s decency?’
An area around the crime scene on the junction of Chudleigh Road and Reservoir Road was cordoned off while investigations continued.
Detective Inspector Wes Martin, of West Midlands Police, said officers are doing ‘all we can’ to support the victim’s family.
