The Queen was pictured in the passenger seat of a car at Sandringham, during her first trip away from Windsor since doctors told her to rest.

Her Majesty reportedly flew to the Norfolk estate by helicopter to prepare for hosting her family there this Christmas.

While being driven around in a Range Rover, the Queen was photographed in a headscarf with butterfly patterns on it.

One of the monarch’s beloved corgis also enjoyed an outing, although it got to peer out of its own Land Rover window.

The familiar sights will come as a relief to those who have been worried about the head of state since she spent her first night in hospital in eight years on October 20.

Aides said doctors were taking an ‘understandably cautious approach’ and insisted the Queen had stayed at King Edward VII’s hospital, in London, for ‘practical reasons’.

But worries intensified when she uncharacteristically cancelled several work engagements, including a trip to Northern Ireland and an appearance at Cop 26 in Glasgow.

Instead, she recorded a video message played to world leaders on Monday.

The Queen has been off work at Windsor, although fulfilling some ‘desk duties’ online, since doctors advised her to rest.

Doctors are thought to have given her the all-clear to travel to Sandringham this weekend as long as she promised to continue to resting there.

An insider told The Mirror: ‘Her Majesty is very much looking forward to hosting her family at her Norfolk home for the Christmas holiday and there is much preparation to be done in time to accommodate everyone who has been invited.

‘The Queen has many happy memories of being at Sandringham with the family over Christmas and was in the firm belief that she was far better off being there in person to oversee everything as much as possible.

‘But she travelled on the understanding with her doctors that she continues to rest as advised.’

The Queen would usually visit Sandringham around this time of her, with her late husband Prince Philip.

Her Majesty honoured the couple’s tradition of visiting Wood Farm, on the Sandringham estate, like they did every year.

Philip is said to have loved the simplicity of Wood Farm – where the only modernisation allowed was a new kitchen.

This year will be the Royal Family’s first Christmas without the Duke of Edinburgh. Metro.co.uk has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
