A murderer who had sex with dead bodies is being linked to a cold case 35 years ago as police continue to investigate whether he’d struck before.
Hospital electrician David Fuller last week pleaded guilty to murdering Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pierce, 20, in two separate attacks in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1987.
He is now reportedly being investigated in relation to the unsolved murder and rape of Linda Cook in Portsmouth in 1986.
The so-called ‘Cinderella Murder’ saw the 24-year-old victim’s body dumped on wasteland with a footprint bearing the word ‘flash’ imprinted on her body.
A footprint was also left near to Ms Knell’s body in 1987 after she was strangled and sexually assaulted by Fuller – leading police to think the cases might be linked, The Sun reported.
Fuller grew up in Portsmouth, just a mile away from where Ms Cook was found in Lake Road – and was living here when he was convicted of 26 burglaries in the 1970s.
A source said: ‘Police are linking Fuller with unsolved cases in his past and this is one of those. He has very strong links to that area.
‘There’s a lot of clues which point in the right direction. They need to look at every corner because what Fuller has admitted is utterly abhorrent and his offending will not be limited to those two killings. There will be others.’
Officers are investigating potential further crimes committed by Fuller who has admitted sexually abusing 78 female corpses in the mortuaries of the hospitals where he was working.
He filmed himself having sex with the bodies – including children – and officers found four million images of sexual abuse at his house in Sussex.
Police have set up a helpline so that people who fear Fuller may have defiled their friends or relatives can come forward.
Having evaded justice for 33 years, he was arrested for murder on December 3 last year following new analysis of decades-old DNA evidence, which linked him to the so-called ‘bedsit murders.’
A nurse who had a two year affair with him in the 1990s has said she feels ‘lucky to be alive’ after finding out what he did.
The woman told The Mirror Fuller was always a ‘perfect gentleman’ around her and only found out about his crimes last week.
She said: ‘To think I’m associated with someone who did something so terrible is awful. I’m very lucky he didn’t kill me.’
