A criminal with a strange resemblance to Boris Johnson and over 200 previous convictions has been imprisoned again for burgling a Hull café.

Jason Watson – who does not in fact have any connection to the PM – broke into the House of Panini in Hill with accomplice Adrian Awty, reported Hull Live.

They left with a handbag containing £1,280 in cash and £1,000 of merchandise, including keys, bank cards and a pair of Vivienne Westwood earrings.

The cafe owners had left the handbag with a member of staff while they were away.

Prosecutor Jazmine Lee told Hull Crown Court the pair went to the cafe on Hull’s Prospect Street and looked behind the till before going into a private area.

Awty, 45, was seen carrying something while Watson had hidden something in his trousers.

Watson, 43, later tried to barricade himself in his room when police arrested the two men.

The Hull-based pair have committed dozens of burglaries between them, with Watson boasting 210 previous convictions to Awty’s 96.

They were each imprisoned for 10 months for the burglary.

Watson had previously been convicted of 125 thefts or similar matters and 23 burglaries.

He was jailed for four years on January 10 last year for burglary but released on September 3 this year.

Awty has previously been conviction of 52 theft-linked matters and 21 burglaries.

He was sent down for three years and four months in October 2019 for burglary.

Julia Baggs, representing Watson, told Hull Crown Court the lag kicked his drug addiction while serving his last prison sentence, but found himself on the streets after being released from prison.

Ms Baggs said: ‘He has been dependent on drugs for the vast majority of his adult life,’

‘He quickly, sadly, fell off the wagon and made some backwards steps.

‘This offending was clearly impulsive. He wants to work when he comes out in the community.’

Cathy Kioko-Gilligan, for Awty, said the offence was opportunistic and that he was under the influence of drugs at the time.

‘There is no excuse for the defendant’s behaviour,’ she said.

‘He has had a long-standing history of drug addiction.’

Recorder Megan Rhys said the duo had ‘appalling records’ while sentencing them.
