WhatsApp has added a brand new button that you may notice in your group chats.

The button enables you to join video and audio group calls while they’re in progress. Which helps a lot if you’re running late and missed the initial invitation.

WhatsApp calls the feature joinable calls and says it’s rolling out to users now.

It means the popular messaging app – which is owned by Facebook – can compete with the likes of Zoom, FaceTime and Microsoft Teams.

Users will be able to jump into an ongoing group call directly from the group chat.

‘We are making it easier to connect spontaneously with your groups,’ a WhatsApp spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.

‘Join ongoing calls with your groups anytime, effortlessly and directly from the chat view with one click.’

Only people who are part of the group chat can join the call and WhatsApp says the call will show in the chat list, so people can see which groups have ongoing calls immediately after opening the app.

Finally, it’s also changing the notification to say the name of the group instead of just a list of participant names.
