Monday morning has kicked off with more travel chaos as Insulate Britain blocks Blackwall Tunnel in London.

Huge queues of frustrated drivers were seen backed up as the tunnel came to a standstill this morning.

It comes after the climate activists disrupted motorways most days last week – including the M1, M4 and M25 in one morning.

They have vowed not to stop until the Government takes urgent action to provide insulation for 29 million homes to cut emissions – despite the threat of unlimited fines and imprisonment.

An injunction obtained last week means anyone blocking key routes could be found in contempt of court.

Hugh Bladon, founding member of the Alliance of British Drivers has warned ‘firm action is needed from the police before someone gets killed’.

He said: ‘They’ve made their point, now go away and get this country working properly. They’re bang on about insulating houses though.

‘They need to let this country get back to living normally. They need to be seen by the courts, and they need to be dealt with – you can’t allow this to go on.’

Boris Johnson has named the group’s behaviour ‘reckless and selfish’.

The prime minister said: ‘This government will always stand on the side of the law-abiding majority and ensure the toughest penalties possible for criminals who deliberately bring major roads to a standstill.’

But Craig Scudder, a member of the group, told GB News: ‘We’re carrying on. There’ll be disruption today and I apologise for that but we’re carrying on until the government issues a meaningful statement on how they’re going to address this issue.

‘We’re creating jobs, we’re stopping people dying, we’re taking people out of fuel poverty – it really is just a win win win.’
