This is the shocking moment a gunman chucked a revolver into a neighbour’s garden – in front of armed police.

When officers from West Midlands Police knocked on Nigel Collins’ front door, he was so startled he tried to flee his home topless.

But another team kept watch in his back garden in case he made an attempt to escape.

As he was confronted by the waiting firearms team, he tossed an Armani man bag over the fence in a moment of desperation.

The 33-year-old claimed the bag contained a small amount of cannabis, but when officers recovered it a short time later, they discovered a silver revolver with three bullets in the chamber.

Another three bullets were found in a white latex glove after the early morning raid on September 8.

He was arrested at the scene, on Tew Park Road in Winson Green, and later admitted possession of the firearm and ammunition.

Detective Inspector Martin Brown said: ‘Again this case shows the power of bodyworn video.

‘It gave us irrefutable evidence linking him to the gun, and he sat in silence when we showed him the footage during interview.’

The bust followed intelligence that Collins, who was on licence at the time after being jailed for nine years in 2014 for robbery, was linked to firearms.

The offender had posed as a police officer to trick his way into a home on Waterloo Road, Smethwick, but after failing to convince the householder, he climbed through a window to gain access.

Collins and two accomplices got away with £300 in cash and a mobile phone.

However, on their way out they dropped a bag containing a glove which, when analysed by forensics experts, returned a DNA hit.

He was traced to an address in Whitehall Road, Handsworth, where he was arrested.
