Insulate Britain activists are blocking traffic on three busy intersections in the City of London.
The group restarted their actions in the week before the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.
The A10 Bishopsgate in Liverpool Street, Southwark Bridge and Limehouse Causeway are being obstructed this morning.
In a press release titled ‘We won’t stand by while the government kills our kids,’ Insulate Britain said it had 61 activists across the three locations.
Some have glued their hands to the roads, according to reports. The Metropolitan Police is in attendance.
Videos showed members of the public clashing with the campaigners over the road blockage.
One man with a silver ponytail called a woman activist ‘scum’ and told her: ‘If anyone gets cancer, please let it be your family, so you know what it’s like’ [having access to hospital blocked].
The Met has said it has an appropriate policing plan in place and will respond accordingly to any new protests.
They told people to avoid all three areas.
A High Court order which means protesters who block the M25 can be put in jail has not yet been used.
During nearly straight five weeks of its ‘campaign of civil resistance’ the climate group infuriated motorists by sitting on the motorway and other major roads.
Insulate Britain – an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion – held the controversial rush hour blockades of key roads in and out of London in a bid to drive publicity for its aims.
It wants the prime minister to commit to retrofitting 29 million homes by 2030 to tackle climate change and fuel poverty simultaneously.
The environmental group has called for speed limits to be halved from 20mph to 10mph during their protests.
A spokesperson said: ‘Insulate Britain is committed to non-violent direct action.
‘We are calling on our government to stop 8,500 people dying every year because they can’t keep warm, to stop millions of British families being cold and hungry, to act to protect us from the unfolding terror of mass starvation which threatens national security.
‘This is the climate crisis, the betrayal of Britain by our government that we seek to avoid.’
