Five men have been arrested following the brutal murder of a man in his 40s on Monday evening.
The 42-year-old was attacked in Surrey and pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services responded after reports of an assault in New Haw at around 7.30pm but could not save the victim, whose identity has not been revealed.
Now three teenagers and two young men are in custody on suspicion of murder.
The quartet, aged 31, 28, 19, and two aged 18, are all from New Haw, though the older teenager is of no fixed address.
Surrey Police’s Borough Commander for Runnymede, Inspector James Wyatt, said: ‘We understand that this violent act will have shocked the local community and we would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything possible to establish who is responsible and hold them to account.
‘Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the next couple of days whilst we carry out our enquiries.
‘At this stage of the investigation, we believe that the victim and suspects were known to each other and we don’t believe there to be any risk to the wider public.’
The victim’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.
Officers remain at the scene, in Heathervale Way, and a cordon is in place.
