A soldier died on a military training drill in Wiltshire yesterday in an incident believed to have involved a tank.
He was pronounced dead at the scene near Salisbury Plain, a regular army training facility, shortly before noon.
It’s understood a tank rolled over, resulting in the soldier’s fatal injuries.
At the height of the incident, around a dozen police officers – from Wiltshire and the Military of Defence police – were in attendance.
A spokesperson for the MoD said: ‘It is with sadness that we can confirm the death of a soldier on Salisbury Plain Training Area.
‘Wiltshire Police are investigating and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.’
Paramedics from surrounding countries flew in by helicopter as they attempted to save the soldier’s life.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and South Western Ambulance Service crews were scrambled to the incident on a public byway in Enford.

Two fire engines were sent from Pewsey and Ludgershall as well as a heavy rescue unit from Trowbridge.
The collision investigation is being led by traffic officers from the local force, with units parked in Enford Village Hall car park a short distance from the scene.
As darkness fell on the plain, the investigation was ongoing – with spotlights erected near the scene of the fatality and two forensic vans parked nearby.
There are three military barracks – at Bulford, Larkhill and Tidworth – on the 300sq mile Salisbury Plain.
