August might have been a bit of a let down but it looks like there’s a treat in store this week.
Forecasters are predicting an Indian Summer across the country from Monday, just when it looked like it might have been done for good.
Temperatures could be as high as 30C, with every part of the UK getting a dose of sunshine at some point.
Sweltering temperatures are forecasted from Monday to Wednesday, according to the Met Office.
It remains to be seen if it will stay high enough for long enough – three straight days of above maximum average temperatures – to officially be dubbed a heatwave.
Central England and Wales should see temperatures of up to 25C, while the mercury is expected to hit the high 20s and beyond in London and the South East.
Edinburgh is forecast to reach 23C on Wednesday, while the best of the weather will come on Tuesday in Belfast.
Annie Shuttleworth, a Met Office forecaster said: ‘We are expecting temperatures to rise at the beginning of the new week.
‘Sunday will be a cloudy and wetter day for much of Scotland and Northern Ireland while those further south will see bright and sunny conditions with temperatures in the mid-twenties.
‘Despite a cloudy start to Monday, conditions will be clear and bright with hot temperatures for large parts of England and eastern Wales as the result of continental air moving in from the south.
‘This air will start to push through the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, dragging temperatures as high as 29C (84.2F) for parts of the south-east while Scotland and Northern Ireland will also move into the mid-twenties.
‘It’s going to be very warm for the time of year and could even be rather uncomfortable for people trying to sleep at night, with temperatures remaining at around 18C (64.4F) during the evening.’
She said there’s a ‘decent chance’ of a heatwave being declared in parts of the country, particularly England and eastern Wales.
But enjoy it while you can because there’s a big change in store on Thursday.
An area of low pressure is expected to move in, bringing grey and wet conditions for much of the UK.
It remains to be seen if there could be localised thunder storms in some areas.
By the time the weekend rolls around, temperatures across the board are expected to be much closer to the seasonal average.
