A marketing executive believed to have been murdered by her boyfriend talked about how she was unhappy with their relationship, family friends say.

Maddie Durdant-Hollamby, 22, and her partner Ben Green, 41, were both found dead at their home in Kettering, Northamptonshire shortly after 1pm last Friday.

Investigators believe Green, a marketing director at a water management company and a children’s cancer charity trustee, murdered his girlfriend before taking his own life.

He is currently the only suspect in the death of his partner, who he had been dating for two years.

Maddie was originally from the village of Wimblington, Cambridgeshire. Her parents Steve Durdant-Hollamby, 48 and Rachel, 47 are well known in the community.

Her dad is a former president of the local Parkfield Sports Club, which his family regularly visit.

A friend of her dad’s told MailOnline: ‘Steve told us that Maddie wasn’t that happy with Ben and had spoken about ending the relationship.

‘He was almost as old as Steve and Rachel and had three kids from a previous marriage and this concerned them. Any parent would be worried if their 22-year-old daughter came home with a man like this.

Another regular at the club added: ‘Steve had said at times that Ben wasn’t right for Maddie. He didn’t go into much detail but hinted that he didn’t like him and found him controlling.’

It is thought Maddie’s parents raised the alarm with police after not hearing from her for several days. This prompted officers to visit Green’s home, where they found them both dead.

Neighbours claimed Green had a ‘string of young girlfriends’ aged in their 20s before he met Maddie.

One woman who lived next door to his £700,000 home for 18 months told the Sun: ‘They would last about six months and then another one would appear.’

She added that he was ‘very difficult’ to get to know and described him as ‘arrogant’.

Police are treating Maddie’s death as a murder and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the case.

In a statement, Green’s grieving family said: ‘Ben was an extremely loving father to three extraordinary young children and was a beloved partner to his ex-wife.

‘He was also a loving son, brother, uncle, and nephew. There are no words to describe the extremely sad circumstance of this tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with Maddie’s family, loved ones and friends.

‘We would now respectfully request time to grieve in peace and would ask members of the media to respect our wishes as we have no further comment to make at this devastating time.’

In a statement issued through police on Sunday, the Durdant-Hollamby family said they were ‘absolutely devastated at the loss of Maddie, our beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter and niece’.

They added: ‘Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to imagine life without her. The shock and pain we are feeling is indescribable.

‘She was a beautiful person both inside and out, who loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends.

‘Maddie was a kind, caring, thoughtful young woman, who touched the lives of everyone she met.

‘A talented dancer, her creative talent continued through school and into her career in marketing. Her life has been sadly cut short just as her career was blossoming.

‘Our thoughts are with everybody who knew and loved Maddie as much as we did.’

DI Nicole Main, of Northamptonshire Police, said: ‘While we await a formal identification of Benjamin, we have taken the step of naming him with the support of his family.

‘We understand he and Maddie had been in a relationship and are working to establish as much as is possible about the circumstances in which they died.’

She said both families were ‘overwhelmed with sadness and have asked that they be left in peace at this terribly distressing time’.
