Some people were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a stunningly bright meteor off the south coast of Britain over the weekend.
The shooting star was spotted in the Channel Islands at around 10.45pm on Sunday night, and could be seen from Devon and Hampshire.
It had been seen just seconds beforehand in Brittany, France.
Witnesses called the event ‘incredible’, ‘unbelievable’ and ‘scary’.
Footage of the meteor was captured by the Hampshire Road policing unit while they were on an evening patrol.
An officer tweeted: ‘A little clip of the meteor seen over Hampshire earlier this evening! Sometimes the job has us in the right place at the right time…’
A webcam in Southampton also managed to capture amazing clear images of the beautiful shooting star.
Solent Ships, which records footage of important vessels entering and leaving the city’s port, said it managed to capture the sight because it had ‘a camera streaming live on YouTube 24/7’.
A video was also taken in St Aubin’s Bay, Jersey, by the Air Rescue Channel Islands which operates rescue helicopters.
Although most sightings were in north-western France and south-western UK, some people claim to have seen the shooting star from as far away as Paris and Leicester.
The UK meteor network has suggested early information appears to show the meteor fell into the sea off the coast of France.
The exact location where the meteor landed is yet to be confirmed.
