As one of Britain’s favourite bears, it seems only fair that the Royal Mint has released a new special edition Winnie the Pooh and Friends coin as part of its collection – which went into circulation today, September 2.

It was launched to mark 95 years since the magical tales were first published, with A. A. Milne’s classic stories being released in 1926.

The Royal Mint has released other quintessentially British collections including one for Alice in Wonderland and another for Paddington Bear.

And while it released the first designs from the Disney collection last year, this one’s set to be a favourite.

The collectable will also range in value, so read on to discover how to get your paws on it.

What Winnie the Pooh coins has the Royal Mint released?

The new coin features a classic illustration of Winnie the Pooh and his friends Piglet, Tigger, Owl, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo on a 50p coin.

Last year saw three other coins released, which featured Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and Piglet.

The Royal Mint says: ‘The fourth coin in the nostalgic collection inspired by A. A. Milne’s timeless stories of adventure and camaraderie features the original illustrations of E. H. Shepard.’

It’s available in gold, silver, and brilliant uncirculated editions – some feature the illustrations in colour.

There are no mentions of a fifth coin joining the collection.

How can you get the new Royal Mint Winnie the Pooh coins?

You can buy the new Winnie the Pooh coin from the Royal Mint website for a limited time and they are currently worth the actual price charged for them online.

There are 45,000 limited edition pieces of the silver coloured coin, 18,000 pieces of the limited edition silver proof coin and just 525 gold proof coins.

How much are the new Royal Mint Winnie the Pooh coins worth?

The coins vary in price, with the cheapest 50p brilliant uncirculated coin priced at £10, while diehard collectors may want to snap up the gold proof coin, which will set you back £1,065.

The website says: ‘Each coin comes in a specially created pop-up booklet taking you on a nostalgic trip to the Hundred Acre Wood.’ However, the 22-carat gold proof coin also comes in a wooden case.

Will the commemorative coins go up in value?

Once the limited edition coins have sold out, they may go up in value as the designs won’t go into circulation and can only be bought online.

While there is no guarantee, commemorative coins are typically collector’s items and can fetch far more later down the line.

This is particularly the case with coins like the Winnie the Pooh collection, which will not go into circulation, as they are rarer.
