Murderer Wayne Couzens lied that he had ‘no choice’ but to kidnap Sarah Everard on the instructions of an Eastern European gang.

The ex-Metropolitan Police officer, 48, made the false claims during a chilling interview at his home in Deal, Kent, after he was arrested on March 9.

It came after he

pretended to arrest the marketing executive, 33, before abducting, raping and killing her on March 3.

In a video released by the Metropolitan Police today, the handcuffed dad-of-two tries to fool officers, by saying he doesn’t know Sarah.

Moments later, he confesses to kidnapping the marketing account manager – but comes up with a twisted web of lies.

He says: ‘I am in financial s***. I have been lent on by… I don’t know who they are. A group, a gang, whatever.

‘They told me I need to go and pick up girls and give them to them so, I said – happily.

‘And it then came through that they’re going to harm my family, take them away and use them instead. At that point, I had no option to try and find somebody.

‘So I don’t know – a couple of names. I was told a place to take her, that’s it. That’s all I know of this group of people.’

Instead of confessing his horrific crime, Couzens claimed the Romanian gang members had taken her away.

The footage was played at the first day of his sentencing hearing at the Old Bailey today.

The hearing was also shown CCTV footage of Sarah speaking to her killer on the side of the road in Poynders Court, south London.

Couzens took his wife and kids on a family day out to the scene of his heinous crimes days after dumping her burned body, prosecutors said.

Sarah’s dad Jeremy asked her killer to look him in the eye on Wednesday, telling him: ‘I can never forgive you for what you have done.’
