Thunderstorms and relentless downpours are set to make way for three-days of glorious sunshine.
Temperatures are expected to hit 27°C on Wednesday as a plume of warm air sweeps in from the continent.
But that’s not before more heavy rain, with the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms for western Scotland and Northern Ireland today.
Up to 80mm of rain could fall in parts of Scotland over the course of several hours, with homes and businesses at risk of flooding.
The Met Office said there is a risk of standing water causing difficult driving conditions, as well as delays and cancellations to public services.
There is also a risk of damage to property from lightning strikes as well as a slight chance of power cuts.
Localised flood alerts are in place in parts of the South and South East of England due to torrential rain over the past few days.
The Met Office said higher pressure will start to build from the west on Tuesday, bringing more settled conditions for many places by midweek.
Temperatures in the South could reach 27°C, compared to around 25°C further north, although Northern Ireland is expected to remain wet and cloudy.
Meteorologist Craig Snell said: ‘For a lot of the UK tomorrow it will be like what we have seen over the weekend – plenty of showers around and some of those showers will be heavy.”
‘As we head towards the middle of the week, the showers do take a bit of a step back and we generally turn a little bit drier for most as we go into Tuesday.
‘There will be some showers around across northern and eastern parts but they won’t be as impactful as they have been.
‘Certainly down in the southern half of the UK, we certainly might have a good few decent days towards the second half of the week, where we will replace the showers with some sunshine and some warmer temperatures.
‘So it turns into a bit of a north-south split as we go through this week but I think for all of us the heavy rain will have passed.’
Forecasters have predicted the mercury to hit 30°C from August 19 as hot air from the Mediterranean paves the way for two weeks of sunshine.
