A 19-year-old has been charged with murder after a teenage girl was found dead at a caravan holiday park in north Wales.
Emergency services rushed to Ty Mawr holiday park in Towyn, near Abergele, after receiving reports of a ‘domestic disturbance’ on Saturday afternoon.
A 15-year-old girl was found dead at the scene. Police have not released details about how the schoolgirl died.
Matthew Selby, from Greater Manchester, has now been charged with murder, confirmed police.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear before magistrates tomorrow.
North Wales Police said tonight: ‘Following an incident at Ty Mawr Holiday Park, Towyn on Saturday afternoon, 19-year-old Matthew Selby from the Greater Manchester area has this afternoon been charged with murder.’
‘We would ask the public not to speculate about this incident on social media as this is an active investigation,’ added the force.
Images posted from the scene on Saturday showed crowds watching as an air ambulance and police cars raced to the scene.
Another image showed a caravan which had been taped off by detectives.
A spokesman for Ty Mawr holiday park, which is part of the Parkdean Resorts brand, said at the weekend it was ‘shocked and saddened’ by the incident which it described as ‘isolated and unprecedented’.
Detective Superintendent Mark Pierce previously described the girl’s alleged murder as ‘a tragic but isolated incident’, adding that there is ‘no risk to members of the public’.
He continued: ‘We would like to thank the staff and management of Ty Mawr and members of the public both locally and those holidaying, for their support whilst we carry out investigations.
‘Our thoughts are with the family who are being supported by specially-trained officers at this time.’
