Healthy dad died of Covid because he thought he didn’t need vaccine, twin says

jenny mccann @jennyeye My 42yr old twin brother died in ITU of COVID-19 last week. He died exactly 4 weeks after testing positive. He was the fittest, healthiest person I know. He was climbing Welsh mountains & wild camping 4 weeks before his death. jenny mccann @jennyeye ? 20h Replying to @jennyeye The only pre existing health condition he had was the belief in his own immortality . He thought if he contracted COVID-19 he would be ok. He thought he would have a mild illness. He didn?t want to put a vaccine on his body. His was pumped full of every drug in the hospital. They threw everything at him. But eventually the bedfellow of CoVID19, infection & organ failure, claimed his life. Before he was ventilated he told his consultant that he wished he had been vaccinated. That he wished he had listened. His death is a tragedy. It shouldn?t have happened. He leaves a Mum & Dad, a sister (me), and a 19 yr old daughter. This shouldn?t have happened. My Mum wants people to know about John. For his story to save someone?s life. For pain & loss to drive people to get a vaccine.

A ‘fit and healthy’ dad has died of Covid-19 because he didn’t believe he needed a vaccine to protect him, his grieving twin sister has said.

John McCann, 42, was ‘climbing Welsh mountains and wild camping four weeks before his death’ but failed to recover after contracting coronavirus.

Now heartbroken Jenny McCann has urged people to get the jab, sharing her brother’s story ‘so that our pain and loss will save someone’s life’.

She wrote on Twitter: ‘The only pre-existing health condition John had was the belief in his own immortality.

‘He thought if he contracted Covid-19 he would be OK. He thought he would have a mild illness. He didn’t want to put a vaccine on his body.

‘His was pumped full of every drug in the hospital. They threw everything at him. But eventually the bedfellow of Covid-19, infection and organ failure, claimed his life.’

Ms McCann, of Pinner, north-west London, added: ‘Before he was ventilated he told his consultant that he wished he had been vaccinated.

‘That he wished he had listened. His death is a tragedy. It shouldn’t have happened. He leaves a Mum & Dad, a sister (me), and a 19-year-old daughter.’

Families around the country have shared similar distressing stories.

Mum Danni Coombs, 25, was ‘too busy’ to book an appointment but died at Milton Keynes Hospital on July 15.

Her aunt, Kelly Coombs, said: ‘The message Danni would want to get across loud and clear is that people should not delay getting their vaccinations like she did.’

More than 11 per cent of UK adults are yet to have a jab, despite bookings now being open for all over 18s.
