Police are hunting a ‘callous’ driver who left a family-of-five – including three disabled children and a toddler in a pushchair – drenched after speeding through a huge puddle.
The mum said they were soaked ‘from top to toe’ following the encounter on Hearthcote Road in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, on Tuesday.
Despite waving her arms in a ‘stopping motion’, she said the approaching motorist ‘sped up’ and deliberately splashed them.
She said: ‘My son is 6ft tall and he was drenched. The water went right over his head.’
The woman, who did not wish to be named, told the BBC: ‘My two-year-old granddaughter was screaming, “I don’t like it”. The pushchair was wet through.’
She added: ‘I was shocked more than anything. It’s unbelievably callous.’
Splashing a pedestrian by driving through a puddle near pavement is potentially a crime punishable with fines of up to £5,000 and nine points on a licence, according to the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Derbyshire Police said officers were making enquiries and have appealed for information to try and trace the driver.
