A magician who blackmailed underage girls after tricking them into sending him explicit pictures has been jailed.
Children’s entertainer Jordan Parton, 22, was well known in the Cardiff area and wanted to become the ‘next Penn and Teller’ after being inspired by the American magicians who have their own TV show and perform in Las Vegas.
But Parton was found to have been creating a different form of sinister illusion when he posed as a 15-year-old boy online.
A court heard how he groomed schoolgirls on social media, before forcing them them to take sexually explicit photos.
Parton then used the images to threaten and blackmail his victims. The court heard one victim pleaded with him not to post images of her on the internet. But Parton replied: ‘OK, I won’t post them as long as you do what I say.’
When his house was raided over an unrelated matter in February 2020, police found up to a 1,000 sexual images of young girls.
Parton was the youngest member of the Cardiff Magic Society when he was just 14. He also did tricks for people in the street and performed at children’s parties under the stage name Crazy Clown Balloons.
Cardiff Crown Court heard how a search of his electronic devices revealed Parton had filmed the youngsters performing sex acts before threatening to send the images to their parents.
Prosecutor John Ryan said: ‘He told one victim he would publish the images all over the internet.
‘He told her he would show them to her parents. She felt pressurised and blackmailed.’
Parton, of Newport, Gwent, admitted causing or inciting girls to engage in sexual activity and sexual communication with girls.
He also pleaded guilty to making category A, category B and category C indecent images of children between September 2019 and January 2020.
Defending Stuart John said: ‘His parents have been shocked that their son has committed such serious offences.
‘He’s immature, even for a 22-year-old man. The defendant was bullied as an adolescent. He does realise the wide-ranging impact on his victims and their families.’
Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke said: ‘You were recording the sexual abuse as it was taking place.
‘You were coercing and threatening young girls to provide you with images.
‘Some of your victims were prepared to co-operate with police and provide evidential interviews. Others were too upset or embarrassed to do so.’
Parton given an 11 year extended sentence – including an eight-year custodial sentence with an extended term of three years. He must register as a sex offender for life.
