Climate activists blocking a key road between Essex and Kent yelped in pain as they were shunted by a mum’s Range Rover.
Sherrilyn Speid, 34, defended driving into the Insulate Britain protesters at junction 31 of the M25 near Thurrock, claiming it was ‘just a nudge’.
Video shows her large 4×4 inching up to the backs of three women who were sitting on the road, on the north side of the Dartford Crossing, with a campaign banner.
After stopping just centimetres from one woman, Sherrilyn got out of her car, ripped the poster from their hands and said: ‘Move out the way. I’m not joking.
‘My son needs to get to school and I need to get to work.’
She then returned to her car while saying: ‘I’ll drive through you then. My son is 11 and he needs to get to school.’
Sherrilyn then started driving it forwards into the back of the protesters, causing one to shout ‘ow, ow ow, no’.
Speaking afterwards, she said: ‘I was just standing up for my son. I’m very passionate about that.
‘I just wanted to get him to school. ‘We’re going through a pandemic – they’ve had enough time off already.’
Reacting earlier to footage of the confrontation, which happened last Wednesday, Ms Speid wrote on Instagram: ‘I never ran them over, I gave them a nudge. So dramatic man.’
Insulate Britain – an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion – wants the prime minister to commit to retrofitting 29 million homes by 2030 to tackle climate change and fuel poverty simultaneously.
The group courted huge controversy as members spent four weeks blocking major roads and motorways to drive publicity for their environmental goals.
A dozen protesters were accused of stopping ambulances from getting to their call-outs by obstructing the exit from Moorfields Eye Hospital in central London.
The environmental group has called for speed limits to be halved from 20mph to 10mph during their protests.
